3G CAMP/SEMINAR
CORRECTING MISCONCEPTIONS
GAINING BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING
EMPOWERING LIFE & PURITY

3G Camp?!  3G Seminar?!  What’s that?!  The 3G Camp/Seminar is a special teaching program with a syllabus dealing with issues related to Sexuality and Boy-Girl Relationships (BGR) from a spiritual perspective, and with a strong Biblical emphasis.  This teaching program can be conducted in a camp setting or run as a weekend seminar in your church.  The 3Gs in the 3G Camp/Seminar stand for Girls, Guys and God!

Those of us working with teenagers and youths will know that sex and BGR are hot and serious stuffs that young people are struggling with… promiscuity, pornography, pre-marital sex and a whole range of others issues.  The 3G Camp/Seminar is much more than abstinence!  It is about correcting misconceptions, gaining a Biblical understanding of sexuality and being empowered to live and grow in purity for the Lord!

The main teaching syllabus for the 3G Camp/Seminar is outlined below.  These modular teaching sessions can be conducted in the setting of a camp, conference, seminar, or the usual weekly YF meetings.

1.    THREE SHOCKING TRUTHS ABOUT SEX
The first of the series teaching, this module focuses to counter misconceptions about sex that bombard today's youths.  This session explores issues such as God's design for sex, sexual sins and human sexuality.  The foundational teachings in this seminar should preceed the other seminars.  (For a more in-depth study, this seminar can be done in two 45-minute sessions.)

2.    TO DATE OR NOT TO DATE
"Who says I am too young to date?"  This teaching module is designed specifically to answer this commonly asked question.  Participants are challenged to examine a simple check list to see if they are ready to date.  The seminar concludes by proposing "Friending" as a radical option to dating.

3.    TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT?!
"Can we hold hands?  What about kissing?  How far is too far?"  This teaching module tackles the tough issue of physical contact or intimacy in a Boy-Girl Relationship.  Participants will examine the chemistry and emotions of physical contacts and will be challenged to make a stand on sexual purity.

4.    THREE 4-LETTER WORDS
This module helps youths explore questions like Is it OK to be attracted to someone of the opposite sex, or even the same sex?   What is puppy love?  Is there love at first sight?  What is genuine love?  The seminar examines how like, love and lust are related.

5.    SINGLE AND SWINGING
Everybody is born a single and most remain single at least for the first 25 years of their lives.  This teaching module attempts to present a wholistic understanding of singlehood, examines whether celibacy is a gift from God and explores how we could live our single days purposefully and meaningfully for God.

6.    BEYOND FRIENDSHIP
What should we do if we are interested in somebody?  How do we know that person is the one?  This teaching module helps youths and young adults find guidance when a relationship becomes romantic and moves from friendship to courtship.

Note:  The 3G Seminar/Camp is researched and developed by Jason Fong over many years of dealing with the BGR topics with many youth groups.  If you are interested to know more about the 3G Seminar/Camp, or if you are interested to have this program conducted for the young people in your church, please contact Jason Fong.

THE LIGHT OF GOD’S WORD
Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
I have taken an oath and confirmed it,
that I will follow Your righteous laws.
The unfolding of Your Word gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple.

Psalms 119:105, 106 &130

I was at an SU East Asia Youth Ministry Consultation a couple of years back.  On the opening night, after the introductory talk; there was an activity where we went outdoors.  We were told to walk single-filed, into the thick of the darkness; where the participants were “dropped off” one by one as the rest continued.  The “dropped off” participants were given a lit candle each.  We had about 15-20 minutes of solitude (which seemed like eternity), with a small flickering light (which was nothing in the midst of the dense darkness), to do a bit of reflection…  It was there that the thoughts below first came to me.  And, I have put further thinking on them regularly…

What lights fill the lives of our children, youth and adults today?  The colorful light from the TV sets in our homes…  The monotonous light from the computer monitors…  The dim light from our mobile phones…  The throbbing light at discos, pubs and clubs…  The romantic light from candles at fanciful meals… The flickering light of the cigarette lighters or matchsticks…

Indeed these lights are very captivating lights, enticing and alluring in fact.  But these lights can actually lead us to darkness, especially when people become obsessed.  We erroneously think that only the unchurched have fallen into these snares.  But really, Christians are not exempted.  When Jesus the Life and Light enters into our hearts, He also calls us to be the light of the world.  The Psalmist has also affirmed God’s eternal Word as an irreplaceable guiding light for us.  And so, we as the people of God must unceasingly allow the light of His Word to shine into our lives; so that we are enabled and empowered to effectively and meaningfully shine for Him!

We can have a house with a 1000 lights connected to an electrical power source and yet struggle in darkness, if we do not turn on the switches.  We can have a 1000 candles together with matches and yet have no light, if we do not lit up the candles.  This is precisely what the Psalmist meant when he wrote, “The unfolding of Your Word gives light…”

The light of God’s Word will only shine on us when the Scriptures are unfolded (New International Version).  When the Word of God enters (King James Version) our lives through our regular reflections; and/or is opened (American Standard Version) in our daily quiet time and we understand (Contemporary English Version) the reading; and/or is explained (Good News Bible) and taught (New Living Translation) through preaching and Bible studies; then and only then will our lives will be illuminated.  The most popular version (or translation) of the Bible is none of those mentioned in this paragraph.  The most common version many Christians have is actually the NRV… the Never Read Version!  The NRV Bible will never give us any light!

Let him who has an ear hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church today…

praise&prayer
26 May 2011

The recent SUEWA ON Institute was 12 days long.  Phew!  I am now back home in Petaling Jaya.  Praise God for the strength, health and grace He has provided to all of us, both the trainers and the participants!

There were quite a few teary eyes on the last evening.  Everyone shared how the teachings and interactions have impacted them.  Yes!  Indeed the learning experience at the ON Institute is not just from the lectures given, but also from both formal and informal interactions amongst all the people…

Every time SU people from around the world gather together, it is like a foretaste of heaven to me.  The Bible tells us that one day every tongue, every tribe and every kindred will come before the King of kings!  Praise God!

Please pray for the ON Institute participants as they return to work back in their home country.  Pray that they will be able to remember all that they had learned, process the information and experience received, and find meaningful applications in their respective areas of ministry.

On the second weekend of the ON Institute, I had the privilege of ministering and fellowshipping at four different church services in Johor Baru.  I preached at the Calvary City Church and her daughter churches.  Pray that the seed of God’s Word sown at these services will bear fruits in the lives of the hearers.

Coming up in the next few weeks, I will be preaching and teaching in three camps:

3G Camp (30 May – 2 June)
I will be taking six sessions at this camp.  The 3G (Girls, Guys and God) syllabus is a comprehensive teaching program on sexuality and BGR…

Northern Youth Revival Camp (4-7 June)
I will be taking three sessions in the last leg of this camp which is planned by the young people from Kedah.  I want to bring the Rhema Word of God to this camp…

IG Family Camp (10-12 June)
I will be serving along side with the SU Peninsular Malaysia team in this Inter-Generation Family Camp.  The focus of the camp will be train and motivate the people in evangelism.

Please pray for my on-going preparations, safe travelling to these camps, and most of all that I will be an instrument that God may use to touch and impact lives!

Thank you and God bless!

pray4me
12 May 2011

I will be taking a bus to Singapore tomorrow (13 May, Friday) to teach in the coming SU East & West Asia (SUEWA) ON Institute.  This is a special 12-day long training and induction program for new staff in the SU Movement in our region.

We project to have about 25 participants from about 8 countries.  Please pray that our spirits, hearts and minds would be open to learn all that God wants us to learn.

The schedule at the ON Institute will be packed and there will be many sessions.  Do pray that the participants will have strength and health to cope with the intense learning experience.

Pray also for good communication and understanding among the participants and the trainers.  Language will be a challenge, because English may not be the first language for many of the participants.

Pray for the trainers as well.  We will have close to a dozen people coming in and going out at various times to teach in the ON Institute.  About 2-3 of us will be resident trainers, and I will be one of them.  Please pray that all of us will not only instruct but also inspire the new staff.

Pray for good fellowship and interactions among all the participants and trainers.  Pray that there will be good bonding, and the some mentoring may happen at the ON Institute, and that some of these relationships will continue to strengthen after the ON Institute.

Finally, I will be speaking at 4 services in a few churches in JB over the 21 & 22 May weekend.  My wife will be coming down from PJ to meet me.  Please pray for meaningful fellowship with the various congregations and effective ministry to the people.

Thank you for praying.  Thank you for your partnership in the ministry.  God bless you!
